ABOUT

MISSION AND HISTORY

The ACT Program's mission is to empower youth in Orleans and Genesee Counties by giving them accurate sexual health information so that they can make their own informed decisions about their health.

The ACT Program has been around for many years, but is currently funded by the Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Grant (CAPP) through the New York State Department of Health.  Every five years, ACT applies for this funding and has so far been awarded each time it has been offered.  Community Action of Orleans and Genesee houses this grant for the ACT Program, and therefore allows the program to serve all of Orleans and Genesee Counties.

With the funding ACT receives, the program provides evidence-based, medically accurate, age-appropriate sexual health education on the prevention of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases for youth in Orleans and Genesee Counties. Goal setting and refusal skills are practiced, in addition to discussions on the consequences of sexual activity- designed to promote personal responsibility. Additional skills on healthy relationships, healthy attitudes, and effective communication are provided as well.
